Pre-K Teachers

Our Pre-K classroom is part of the Office of School Readiness within the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education. Our classroom is unique because it is staffed with both a certified Pre-K teacher and a Pre-K aide, allowing us to provide a nurturing and engaging learning environment for all students. Our class consists of 18 students, and we believe children learn best through hands-on experiences, creativity, play, and exploration.

In our classroom, your child will participate in a variety of activities each day, including morning meeting, literacy and math whole-group lessons, daily small-group instruction, free-choice learning centers, art experiences, and daily name-writing practice. Small groups allow us to provide individualized, hands-on learning experiences that meet each child where they are and help them grow.

At Rosinton, students also have the opportunity to participate in PE every day and enjoy art, music, and library classes weekly.

One of our favorite places to learn is outside! Mrs. Alex and I strongly believe that young children learn best through meaningful play and exploration. Our outdoor classroom experiences include tricycles, a mud kitchen, a playground, large blocks, and other hands-on materials. Because of our active learning environment, your child will get messy, explore, and have lots of fun!

Students rest for one hour each day and will need to bring a towel for rest time. Each child should also bring a backpack large enough to hold their towel and daily folder. Your child will need to bring one healthy snack and one drink for snack time each day (please, no candy). Breakfast and lunch are included as part of our daily routine and are provided free of charge.

Please send a water bottle filled with water only each day. We ask that water bottles have a straw rather than a wide-mouth opening, as they are less likely to spill in backpacks and around the classroom.

Please remember that students must be fully potty-trained to attend our Pre-K program.

Pre-K Teacher, Mrs. Madeleine Gilliland "Mrs. G"

Hello and welcome to Pre-K! My name is Madeleine "Maddi" Gilliland, but my students know me as Mrs. G, and I am honored to be your child’s teacher this year. I am so excited to begin this school year and partner with you as we help your child learn, grow, and develop a love for school.

A little about me — I am married to my husband, Jared, and we have two wonderful children, with another sweet baby joining our family soon. My son, Lincoln, is 5 years old and will be starting kindergarten this year, and my daughter, Caroline, is 2 years old with a big personality that keeps us on our toes! We live in Daphne, Alabama, and love being part of Baldwin County.

I graduated from Daphne High School in 2012 before earning my bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Studies from the University of Southern Mississippi. I later earned my master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of West Alabama.

Teaching Pre-K is truly my passion, and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be one of the first teachers in your child’s educational journey. I cannot wait to get to know each of my students and make this a year filled with learning, growth, laughter, and unforgettable memories!

Pre-K Aide, Mrs. Alex Welch

My name is Alexis "Alex" Welch, though most of my students know me as Mrs. Alex. I was born and raised in Baldwin County and graduated from Robertsdale High School in 2010. I later attended the University of Alabama, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree—though I still proudly say, “War Eagle!”

Before entering education, I spent five years working in the medical field. Feeling called to a new path, I took a leap of faith and began substitute teaching. It didn't take long for me to discover my passion for Pre-K. From the moment I stepped into a preschool classroom, I knew I had found where I was meant to be.

I am incredibly grateful to be part of the Rosinton family and cherish the opportunity to build relationships with students and families, often seeing familiar faces each year. 

Outside of the classroom, I am blessed to be married to my wonderful husband, Dylan. Together, we have two amazing children. Our daughter, Grey, is 7 years old and will be entering third grade here at Rosinton, and our son, Ridge, is 3 years old and keeps his daycare teachers busy every day! As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors, making memories together, and growing in our faith.

BCBE Pre-K: First Class 

Children who turn four years old by Sept. 1 of the attendance year are eligible to enroll in Pre-K in the school to which they are zoned. Although Pre-K is available, classes are limited in selected locations. The Pre-K application period is from mid-January to mid-February prior to the attendance year. To apply for Pre-K, you must have your child’s Certified Birth Certificate and two proofs of residency with the physical address of your residence (not a post office box). If your child is selected during the random selection, you will need to provide a current immunization record (formerly known as the "blue card") to the school office.

PRE-K Reminders

• Pre-K students do not have supply lists. 
• Pre-K students cannot ride the bus.
• The Pre-K teacher will be in contact about parent orientation.
• Acceptance to the program is through a random selection process and/or screening.
• The registered applicant must meet residency requirements and complete the essential documents set forth by the program.
• Zone variances are NOT accepted for Pre-K.
• If applicable, the anticipated redistricting lines will be used for adjusted school zones.
• The registered child must be 4 on or before September 1, 2026.
• Children who are eligible for kindergarten are ineligible to register.
• Children will not be denied participation on the basis of income, sex, race, color, national origin, or disability.
